Makerspace

At Makerspace, we invite a small group of autistic children ages 7-10 (and their caregivers) to engage in a full afternoon of community art activities with self-paced breaks and supportive facilitation.

We use BIG cardboard boxes, simple, kid-safe tools and art supplies, along with recycled and found materials, to make some serious creative magic happen.

Each event has a theme as a jumping off point, but we won’t limit your creativity. Past participants have built life-sized unicorns, time machines, stuffed animal and doll palaces, pirate ships, aquariums, cat castles, robot costumes, and more!

FREE. Join our lottery right here!

Mini-Makers

At Mini-Makers, we invite a small group of 5-6 year old autistic children (and their caregivers) to engage in a fun-filled morning celebrating neurodiversity and the arts!

Our friends at Asheville Creative Arts are bringing us a private showing of their new work, Petit Mondrian. Petit Mondrian is a 20 minute dance-theatre piece incorporating puppetry, hand-clapping, song, and interactive video installation. Wow! Freshly inspired by the show, we’ll create our own little masterpieces with recycled and found materials before closing with giant parachute play as a group!

Mini-Makers is geared toward a young and autistic group of movers, shakers, and art-makers. We love to incorporate invitations for autonomous creativity, play, quiet rest, and big movement! Stimming is celebrated here! All of our facilitators have received special training in autism and neurodiversity-affirming practices, and most are neurodivergent themselves.

This program is 100% free, with limited seats (lottery based) thanks to grant funding from ArtsAVL and Buncombe County.

Sign up RIGHT HERE anytime before our lottery on Friday, January 10th.
